I love stories like this. Im 54 years old and I grew up in West Babylon, when I was 14 or so, I discovered a store called Looney Tunes here in West Babylon, and I have bought my music there ever since.
This is a LONG ISLAND story!
September 29th marks the 40th anniversary of Billy Joel’s breakthrough fifth album, 1977’s The Stranger. The album didn’t enter the Top 10 until nearly four months after its release, finally appearing on January 21st, 1978.

Billy Joel has just given a local Long Island, New York record company permission to press a run of limited edition vinyl picture discs of The Stranger. Brookvale Records CEO-President Karl Groeger Jr. had long felt that Billy’s breakthrough album deserved a special touch for its 40th anniversary. He says, we knew the 40th anniversary was coming up, so we submitted a proposal to Sony to license the record. We’ve always wanted to do something with Billy. We’re so proud to be putting out this record.”
Sony approved the indie label’s proposal for the picture disc to feature the iconic album’s front cover on Side A with the back sporting the classic shot of Billy, Phil Ramone, Liberty DeVitto, Doug Stegmeyer, and Richie Cannata eating at Manhattan’s Supreme Macaroni Co. on the B-side.
The new picture disc will available October 20th through Brookvale Records and at Groeger’s record store, Looney Tunes.
