Leo Fender

On this day in 1991, Leo Fender, the inventor of The Telecaster and Stratocaster guitars died from Parkinson’s disease. He was important to rock and roll as all of the forefathers were, the sound of a Fender guitar is heard everyday on WBAB and today we salute its inventor Leo Fender.

He started mass producing solid body electric guitars in the late 40’s and when he sold his guitar company in 1965, sales were in excess of $40 million a year. Think of how many world famous guitarists play Fender guitars, some are known for their guitars alone.
