Today in 1970, The Who appeared at Leeds University, England. The show was recorded for the bands forthcoming ‘Live At Leeds’ album. Since its initial reception, Live at Leeds has been cited by several music critics as the best live rock recording of all time. In 2003, it was ranked number 170 on Rolling Stone‘s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The venue at which it was recorded, the University Refectory, was named a national landmark. In 2006, over 36 years after the original concert, the Who returned to perform at the Refectory. Happy Anniversary, Live at Leeds!
