When the Who were recording My Generation John Entwhistle used a newly available Danelectro bass, and kept breaking bass strings during the solo. Since replacement strings were not yet available, he had to go out a buy a new bass to be able to get the full set, he bought three basses that week.
This is a take on that song that I think will make you laugh, its by a group called The Zimmers, who average age is 80 plus, making them one of the worlds oldest bands. This is their version of My Generation.
